Canti di Casa D. No 1 is a 18 tableaux cinematic imagination in sound, words, images and sculpture directed by Ute Janssen as a hommage to Edward James. Canti di Casa D. No 1 was shot on location in the poets and artist patrons former mansion in Italy, close to the French border. He designed the architecture incorporating countless surrealist subjects and references. All 18 tableauxs strongly reference surrealist artworks by artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Rene Magritte and Leonora Carrington. Christopher Loy is featured in several performances as the young Edward James, engaging with his legacy, biography and the surrounding artworks and architecture. On the occasion of the two-day conference Italy is more surrealist than the Pope on 100 years of surrealism by the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, Italy, October 17-18, 2024, Canti di Casa D. No 1 was first screened.
