Stimmzimmer

In Stimmzimmer one of the lawyers offices in the post modern architecture of the was transformed into a warm up room, a dedicated space in which orchestra musicians prepare for a performance. A transient glass wall with a door seperated the room from the lobby, in which champagne and tapas were served for the opening guests. Inside the artist was practicing cello with a metronome. Only the latter was audible in the lobby, juxtaposing the lawyers (absolute) versis the classical musicians (relative) relationship to time. Furthermore the work is an exploration of the theme of “practicing”, it’s sustainability and how lawyers similarily juggle with systems of rules to come to new ergebnissen. This transfers also to the gestural and visual codes between classical orchestras and the lawyers practice. The German words “Stimmen” and “Stimmung” are closely related underrlining the role of creating a nice atmosphere often imposed on artists by society. The transient spatial separation shifts that role as mostly the unpleasant sound of the metronome was audible, leaving it up to the audience if they decide to switch from one soundscape and social context to another.
